I lived on Beechwood Street (on the otherside of the prison from Fairmount) during my second year of law school. I loved walking the neighborhood and found my neighbors to be a delight. I often think of the old Fairmount neighborhood and Philadelphia.

I have never lived in Philadelphia, but all of my relatives did starting in 1807 when Thomas P. Foxhill came over from England and settled at about Callowhill and 3rd. He, his sons, his grandsons, and even greatgrandsons were all butchers in this area. It wasn't until 1900 that my particular line went across the bridge to Camden. Thank you so much for this site! It's nice to be able to take a "tour" of where my relatives came from. I haven't lived in NJ since 1956 but one day I'll come back and walk the tour. Again, thank you for the site. This is such a good way to show off our city! Philadelphia can be really beautiful as well as full of history. I'm from the suburbs but my husband is from Fishtown. We now live in South Phila. I would find it hard to leave the city. The people in our neighborhoods are like none other.

Happy to find this site. Looking for relatives and/or family history. I was baptized at St. Francis. Family (grandmother) lived at 23rd & Parrish, I think. Bowen family... LaCorte family... I remember walking to the art museum from my grandmother's house.

I was fortunate to attend Girard from 1944 until 1953 even though it was necessary for me to leave prior to graduation. I have kept in contact with Girard over the years and plan on returning this year for Founder's Day. Look forward to seeing Phylis Rhodes (Abrahms sp?.) I am looking for a couple of classmates that I haven't heard from in years. Any hummers have info would be appreciated. Their name are Alan Scholfstal from Gettsburg, and Paul Marquette from Scranton. Hope to see you all in May. Fred '54

Some one on the Phillys Rootweb list was kind enough to tell me about this site. I was trying to find information about the Girard College for boys. I found wonderful information and a picture regarding this school. I wrote them and was able to obtain some documentation about my Great Grandfather who enrolled in the school in 1862. Dottie

This is the gateway to fairmount park.,and the residents and businesses have made it a fitting portal. The restaurants and cafes in the area are as diversifed as the makeup of the residents. It is a pleasure for me to travel through the area.
