As a novice genealogist and history buff, I was very pleased to browse this site. During the nineteenth century, my g-g-g grandfather lived in the Spring Garden section of Philadelphia at 10th and Parrish Streets (1836-1899). Thanks for the information on Dr. Parrish.

I've enjoyed reading up on the history of Philadelphia and am continuously impressed with the volume of information and history there is regarding Philadelphia. I own a home in the Art Museum area; on Popular Street, right off of Sedgely Drive. I run or rollerblade daily along Kelly Drive. I have lived in Philadelpia for 4 years and felt an immediate affinity for it and especially for Lemon Hill, Kelly Drive and the Art Museum....I now consider it as home more so than NY. I'm continuously enchanted with it's beauty in articheture, history and natural wonders of it.

I grew up in Havertown. This page brings back memories. I am looking or information on the trolley line that ran in Fairmount Park, and on Red Arrow. When I wass little, I remember seeing the Fairmount Park trolley crossing Strawberry Bridge. I envied the people riding it.

My great-great grandfather was one of the original students at Girard College back in the 1830's. He fought in the Civil War and later dedicated a plaque at the college. My sister came across an old picture of him standing in front of it. I am very interested to know if it is still there today. His name is Joseph Blasheck. I've had a tough time tring to find a web page for the college. does anyone have a address so I can contact them. Webmaster's Note: The Girard College Website is at http://www.girardcollege.com/. This listing was posted before the college had a website.

I have always loved this neighborhood. It has always reminded me of a starving artist type neighborhood. Fairmount to me can be compared to some areas of NYC which is just as hot as Philly. Hopefully when I graduate college I will be able to purchase a home in the area. I love it here!!!!!!

My mother and father and earlier ancestors are all from Phila. Mother still talks fondly of area. I miss it, too. As a child, visited Fairmount Park with my brother--he climbed all over the rocks ! Visiting the Art Museum, seeing a Phillies game, going to Betsy Ross House, Ben Franklin Museum, etc. created wonderful memories ! I found Tastykakes have a web site so I was able to send them to my mother in Montana. I guess you have to have been from Philly to know what this means.

My fiance is a 33 year resident of Fairmount, and his mother, and grandmother are lifelong residents also. I just recently moved into the "neighborhood" 9 months ago. It is very convenient to all parts of the city, south, center city, and the northeast. Although we may be moving in a couple months, I will miss being so close to everything.

This is the best part of the City of Philadelphia. The living is central to Downtown, Museums, Parks and transportation. The "Greatest Neighborhood" in the world with its mix of people. A hidden place from tourists. Some of the best food is available here also. I love computers, people who are direct and upfront without intimidation crap! Come on and visit!

I came upon this site while researching Joan of Arc for my 11th grade French class. I decided to look around and check out the site and see what Fairmont Park was, I had never heard of it! I find it very interesting that the Joan of Arc statue was originally built and stood in Paris. Thanks, bye. RYAN HALVERSON
