Yup Kramer, now it's all yuppies who think they are the founders of a great neighborhood. They like it because they can walk to work in 15 minutes. Had they been around inthe 60s and 70s, they woulkd really know what the term Fairmount truly means. To them, its the Art Museum area. That's BS. Be proud, call it Fairmount, the longtimers may like you better.

Well said Lisa Trout. It was a great place, but the faces have changed for the most part. Can ride down Parrish or Brown & not see anyone you know.

Great site. See some old names that bring bad some fond (& sadly, not so fond) memories.

Best to all

I do not think a person who graffitied a wall is going to sue you for copyright infringement. LOL Some ppl are real winners.

I knew your brother well. Shame he died, but look at the circumstances of his death, yet someone memorializes him in a graffiti tribrute & you are proud of it?? So basically some a-hole can vandalize someone else's property w/ graffiti in tribute to your brother & it is OK?? That's BS, the person who did it, if ID'd should be arrested & charged w/ vandalism & trespassing & should have to remove every bit of paint from the wall.

its true its almost 2008 and the neighborhood Fairmount has changed soooo much---gone are Beato's,Terry's,playing Bsketball at Bache and in the Cripple school, "the Drives",Pete's water ices, waiting for the pizza truck,Taney and Brown Bar,St.Hedwigs,St.Nick's(Festival),O'Laps,Hanging out at the Hill,24th street, and many many more--and so everything changes and we all have to move on,but your right even though things change they can never take away those fun and special memories --that my friends we'll have forever.

I was born and raised in Fairmount. In the past years I have lived in Roxborough, Port Richmond and Southwest Philly. There was no place like Fairmount to grow up. I go back to see friends and family who still live in Fairmount and I am sorry to say it doesn't have that family feel about it anymore. All the faces are new and the old families have moved on, as has mine. I am sorry my brothers and sisters didn't stay in the neighborhood and truly wish my parents still lived on Swain Street. I miss playing softball and partying with my teammates after. I miss walking my dogs in the park and being able to do so at any hour. As a kid I don't ever remember my mom or dad locking our front door. those were the best of Times in Fairmount and never to be seen again. The new families in Fairmount will never know what a great neighborhood it was.

Bobby Rounds, Dianne Rounds, and Freddy Rounds, III were shot at after a single black guy tried robbing them. The bullet missed all three of them, but Bobby Rounds' arm was burnt from the close range shot. Bobby and Dianne are the late Rob Pierson's uncle and aunt, respectively. In addition, a bunch of black kids broke into cars a few days in a row (sometimes around 10:30 p.m.). It seems like you can't even walk out of your house anymore without getting robbed or shot at. I am advising all to report any suspicious activity from those who don't belong in the neighborhood, if you know what I mean.

I have been trying to find out who graffiti a wall in memory of my brother Jimmy right after he died, I got a picture of the wall. I wanted to get a name to the work and the location of the wall. I was going to summit the picture to a website, but I don't want to do it without giving knowledge to the person who did it. If anyone knows who it was I would really appreciate it if you could email me and let me know. The work is awesome and should be reconized and with the 5th anniversary of my brothers death coming up on Sept.6th, I was hoping to have this all done. Again I would really appreciate it...if anyone knows who did the work. Thanks alot, Take care Kim

Lots of goodlooking girls from Fairmount that would be in the 42-46 range now. Times flies. Sadly, it flies faster as we get older. LOL

Miss my days in Fairmount, best years of my life. Great place to grow up in the 70s & early 80s.

The hating needs to stop. Gravelys laugh all the way to the Bank oK. If you do have illegals please dont use them anymore. AS for Fairmount. that is just the name of a one time great area in philadelphia that most everyone who is from there left because yes we could not afford it. Face it the fairmount of today are poeple who are from some place else and there kids are the new fairmount. We have our memories of the good old days. Teh new face of fairmount no matter how much money they ahve could never walk in a real fairmount person shoes. What I mean by real fairmount is family after family living there. It is ashame that the cost of living made a great place such memory today but one thing that couldnt be taking form real old time fairmount people are our memories and our fairmount pride..
