Reservoir Homes
The houses bordered by 22nd Street on the west, Corinthian Avenue on the
east, Poplar Street on the north, and Parrish Street on the south are sometimes
called the Reservoir Houses by the older residents of Fairmount. There was
a reservoir on the site many years ago. When it was demolished, these homes
were built.
You can see that these homes are different than the rowhouses that dominate the area. With gardens surrounded by stairways that lead to front porches, these houses may seem more luxurious than the common rowhome. The streets are lined with tall sycamore trees. Like many of the three story rowhouses in the neighborhood, some of these "garden houses" have been renovated into duplexes. Let's walk down to Parrish Street and turn right. We'll continue to 22nd Street and turn left. There we'll stop by the Bache-Martin School. |
